Step 2 – Measuring: Calculating the living wage gap

Comparing living wage estimates with current comparable remuneration

Once an estimate has been selected, the next step is to compare it with workers' current remuneration, including wages, bonuses, and in-kind benefits.

Having an accurate picture of where you start is essential in deciding what actions to take, and this step provides that clarity on scale, cost, and prioritisation needs.

IDH Salary Matrix

A free digital tool that calculates living wage gaps.  Users input wage, bonus, and in-kind benefits data, choose a living wage estimate, and receive a report that automatically calculates living wage gaps.

The Salary Matrix is sector agnostic and has been used in agriculture, services, and manufacturing.  To date, over 4,500 thousand salary matrices have been generated by producers around the world.

Access our e-Learning site to learn more about how the tool works and how to use it.

Find out what your situation is first, before worrying about what it is going to cost. Measuring is free, the IDH tool is free and very user-friendly . . . And think long term: don't try to fix gaps based on data from one year, but make plans based on data that presents a trend over multiple years.

Being a producer in a number of countries, Fyffes calculates the current total remuneration of employees including bonuses and the value provided by in-kind benefits with the Salary Matrix. This allows us to use a single harmonized tool to easily identify gaps, if any. We can use this information to find solutions in collaboration with all our internal and external stakeholders.
